From One Truck to Statewide Service: How Brakes To Go Was Born

I’m Jonathan Ganther, and I started Brakes To Go with one simple goal: to make brake repair something people could actually enjoy and trust.
Back in 2012, I launched my first mobile auto repair business, RoadWrench Automotive, right here in Austin. We did it all, alternators, A/C systems, transmissions, brakes—you name it. But what really set us apart wasn’t what we fixed. It was how we treated people.
Before working on cars, I waited tables while in school. That experience taught me everything about putting the customer first, being responsive, being honest, and creating a great experience every time. I brought that hospitality mindset straight into the automotive service. I wanted every customer to feel like the most important person on the schedule, honestly, because they were.
The Pivot That Changed Everything
In 2014, I made a big decision: I narrowed my focus and transformed RoadWrench into Brakes To Go, a mobile brake-only service.
Why brakes? Because I realized it’s the one repair most people feel anxious about and the one they’re most likely to be overcharged for. I saw a better way: focus on one thing, do it with excellence, and make it unbelievably convenient.
We cut out the dusty waiting rooms, the high-pressure upsells, and the overpriced dealership parts. We came straight to our customers at their home, at work, even at the gym. We used the same high-quality parts, just without the inflated brand markup, and backed it with one of the best warranties in the industry.
Within just a few years, I became the highest-rated auto service on Yelp in Austin ,all from one truck and a relentless focus on doing right by people.
From One Truck to a Trusted Team
In 2015, my best friend Randall Huntsinger joined me, and that changed everything. We rebranded as Brakes To Go, hired our first technicians, brought on service coordinators, and turned the operation into a professional, customer-first organization.
We built a mobile team of ASE-certified technicians, added live phone support, real-time text updates, and made sure that every brake job could be done in under an hour, without ever stepping foot in a shop.
We started with a 2-year/24,000-mile warranty, and soon leveled up to an industry-leading 3-year/36,000-mile nationwide warranty because we stand behind our work, every time.
Where We’re Headed
Today, Brakes To Go operates in Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Houston, and we’re just getting started. In the next 18 to 24 months, we’re expanding to San Antonio and launching in three new out-of-state markets.
As we grow, one thing stays the same: people come first. That means fair pricing, honest recommendations, unmatched convenience, and expert repairs you can trust, without ever stepping into a shop.
Thanks for being part of the ride.
